Dems are going back on the attack and now they appear to have Barr as public enemy number one.
After the DOJ rescinded its original recommendation to now recommend a lighter sentence for Roger Stone, the House Judiciary is demanding he appear and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has given her stamp of approval on the move by Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).
Lowering the Recommendation
All the rage and fury on this day is centered around the fact DOJ prosecutors made a sentencing recommendation in the Stone case without consulting the higherups.
When the recommendation was given and Barr saw it, he immediately sent a letter to the presiding judge to have the recommendation lowered.
The original recommended sentence of up to nine years was rather stiff, especially considering the circumstances.
Most legal experts believed the case would have warranted something in the three to five-year range.
However, the prosecuting attorneys raised the sentence based on some “threatening” texts that were sent by Stone to a witness.
Barr believes the “threat” was not legitimate or serious in nature, therefore, the lower sentencing recommendation.
Keep in mind, all this happened before President Trump ever sent out his text about the recommendation, so his tweet had no influence at all on the matter.
That mattered little to Nadler, who wrote, “In your tenure as Attorney General, you have engaged in a pattern of conduct in legal matters relating to the President that raises significant concerns for this Committee.
“These are not the only issues that our Committee intends to discuss with you when you appear, but they are enough to require our immediate attention.”
Barr has already agreed to appear, knowing full well he has done nothing wrong.
The hearing will be scheduled for March and we can all expect to see some fireworks.
Based on Barr’s previous appearances, I would fully expect him to very calmly lay out the facts and make Nadler and his fellow Democrats look extremely foolish in the process.
