A Montana man, 55-year-old Mikael Shane Pruett, will likely never see the outside world again after receiving a 200 year sentence for heinous crimes against his own granddaughters.
The two girls, ages 11 and 9, were raped and sexually assaulted by their very own grandfather over a long period of time.
This is an example of how evil can exist even within family relationships.
The District Judge Jeffrey Langton sentenced Pruett to 100 years for each count of incest – one for each granddaughter – after it was discovered that the 11-year-old girl was 32 weeks pregnant as a result of his actions.
To make matters worse, there are still ongoing investigations into accusations that Pruett may have assaulted other girls as young as 3 years old during his time as guardian to these two girls.
It was her nine year old sister who had finally broken her silence about what had been happening in the home during a conversation with her biological mother back in July 2014.
In addition to being repeatedly molested by their legal guardian, both sisters reported that he would also kiss their “private areas”.
When asked if he had anything to say at court on January 21st, Pruett simply replied: “I’m so sorry” before bowing his head and sniffling silently.
Not only was Pruett his victims’ grandfather but also their legal guardian, allowing him unprecedented access to them and leaving no room for anyone else to monitor his behavior or step in when needed.
He abused this power without mercy or remorse until he was caught red handed thanks to brave words spoken by one little girl’s voice.
Justice has thankfully been served with this lengthy prison sentence ensuring that Pruett will not be eligible for parole until he turns 105 years old– an age few manage to reach in life making it highly unlikely that this man will ever experience freedom ever again.
This story serves as a reminder that we must do whatever we can to protect our children from abuse and support survivors in coming forward so perpetrators face justice for their crimes against innocent people who cannot defend themselves.
