Lauren Wasser was born into a family of pretty people.
Her parents were both models, and she fed off that energy.
When she became a model herself, it surprised nobody who knew the family.

In 2012, her life was changed forever.
When doctors were finally able to trace the root of the problem, it was a Super-plus tampon that led to her health issue.
In 2012, Wasser had what she thought were flu symptoms, but this evolved into a life-threatening issue.
During a welfare check, officers found her “in her apartment 10 minutes from death, face down, unconscious on her bedroom floor covered in feces and vomit, after her mother called police for a wellness check when she had not heard from her for a while.”
Wasser explained, “I had been found unresponsive at home, having suffered a fever of almost [107 degrees], my kidneys failing.
“I had had two heart attacks and was given just a one [percent] chance of survival.
“When I came round a week-and-a-half later, after being placed on life support, I was pumped full of fluid, I weighed 200 pounds, my hair was so matted that my head had been shaved, and my legs were black with gangrene.”
She would eventually lose both of her legs.
The cause of this horror was toxic shock syndrome (TSS), call caused by that tampon.
Wasser has now turned into an activist with the mission of warning other women about the dangers of TSS.
Just prior to losing her legs, she stated, “There’s nothing I can do about it. But what I can do is help make sure that this doesn’t happen to others.”
Now fitted with prosthetics, she has resumed her modeling career, which often feature her new golden gams…
