Hard-line conservative lawmakers want Mayorkas out now. They also want all of the messes he made cleaned up as soon as possible. They know that will take time but they’re threatening to defund the entire department until the incompetent official is removed, one way or another.
Mayorkas must go
There are currently a total of 15 Texas Republicans who are insisting Alejandro Mayorkas be sent packing, now. They’re “signaling no interest in funding the Department of Homeland Security without major changes to border policy.”
Progressives over at Politico are terrified of the “growing support” for a stop to the flood of illegals. They’re afraid other Republicans will join the radicals.
The government is scheduled for another of those symbolic shut downs on October 1. Just before everyone left for their August vacation, they started circulating “a letter declaring that the Department of Homeland Security shouldn’t get funded.”
Sec. Mayorkas is intentionally keeping information from the public, as there is virtually no public approval for this administration's uncontrolled immigration policies. https://t.co/YQnlADp0Zb

Not until we see “significant change” along the southern border. They want even more significant change at the top. Mayorkas must go.
If Joe Biden’s handlers won’t fire Mayorkas and he refuses to quit on his own, the House has the power to defund his position. They can make Alejandro’s salary zero and see how long he stays on the job as a volunteer. Meanwhile, they’re serious about defunding the entire Department of Homeland Security.
It won’t make any difference since they’re not enforcing our border laws now, only herding invaders through like cattle. At least shutting down the processing plant should slow down the invasion a little.
No funding for DHS
The Texas group spelled out their demands in terms easy enough for Democrats to understand. “No funding for DHS unless the GOP’s border bill (or something similar) is signed into law.”
Along with that, they demand “the firing, resignation or defunding of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and a $10 billion reimbursement to Texas for border security-related efforts.” They have other requests as well but they didn’t make Politico nervous enough to write about them.
One of the things which really makes Democrats edgy is the fact that Kevin McCarthy seems willing to go along with the move. He needs to appease his far right wing and they’re united in their hatred of Alejandro Mayorkas. As Politico explains to their liberal readers, “this Texas bloc’s move illustrates the fragile math that Speaker Kevin McCarthy faces as heads toward the September 30 government funding deadline.”

The math they’re referring to means Republicans’ fragile “five-seat majority.” Since Democrats always vote against them in unanimous lockstep “15 Republicans is more than enough to sink any government funding bill, or even prevent it from coming to the floor should the group play hardball.”
That pretty much ensures that Mayorkas won’t be a government employee by the end of September. Democrats are also realistic enough to realize that they’re never going to give a Republican spending bill enough votes to pass. They won’t waste much time throwing him under the bus. There are too many other important issues at play right now.
Merrick Garland is facing imminent impeachment and along with him, Christopher Wray has his head on the chopping block. Now that it looks like Hunter Biden might see a real investigation into his criminal activities, Joe Biden may be sitting in a cell next to his soon, after he’s impeached.
