Muriel Bowser decided to give up on federal help. She’s simply going to have to spend cash out of the city reserves to deal with the problem she helped create. By declaring a “migrant emergency,” D.C. can “allocate $10 million to establish and support” a new Office of Migrant Services. By doing it that way, she can bill FEMA for it later.
Bowser bites the bullet
Everyone is wondering why it took Muriel Bowser so long to do what she just did. Democrats created the migration crisis by rolling out the red carpet, then they act surprised when their guests show up at the front door. “Sorry, there’s no party here. You got an invitation? Oh yeah, well… No, I already have a nanny.”
The real reason is that the mayor doesn’t expect FEMA to ever pay them back. It’s her last resort but now that she caved in on Thursday and accepted the inevitable, it turns the migrant mess into a “someone else’s problem” and she can wash her hands of it.
By declaring a few buses full of migrants a public health emergency, Bowser can put in place “a framework that would allow us to have a coordinated response with our partners.” Democrats love the way she created a whole new bureaucracy out of thin air with her Office of Migrant Services.

For $10 megabucks they get “a program to meet all buses, and given that most people will move on, our primary focus is to make sure we have a humane, efficient, welcome process that will allow people to move on to their final destination.” Basically, hospitality and travel agency all rolled up into one.
Mayor Bowser is actually on to something, this time. The program should have been in place since spring. In the past fiscal year alone, a record-breaking 2 million undocumented and Covid-infected migrants and terrorists were welcomed across our southern border into Texas, Arizona, and California.
A bunch more came through without checking in but nobody knows how many. After only a few bus loads rolled up from Texas, D.C. was totally overwhelmed. They don’t seem to realize the spigot is still set on drip and it’s about to be opened up into a flood.
Basic needs to arrivals
Accounting for the District’s new Office of Migrant Services will be handled by the Department of Human Services, Bowser explained on September 8. Migrant Services will “provide basic needs to arriving migrants, including meals, transportation, urgent medical care, and transportation to connect people to resettlement services.”
At the same time, since they will be basically running a hotel and kitchen, they can hire migrants right off the bus and put them to work processing more migrants. That’s the sort of streamlined efficiency which must be in place before Title 42 goes away for good. When that happens, the gates will be thrown wide open.
Bowser is under pressure to move something through the city council fast to make her scheme official. The way it’s set up, progressives should be thrilled. Elizabeth Warren would give it her “slush-fund seal of approval.”
The Consumer Financial Protection Board was created by Warren under Barack Obama’s regime “specifically as a Democrat-controlled slush fund, funneling millions of public dollars to themselves and their supporters, to attack conservatives with.”
Even though the National Guard and the Imperial Palace have both turned their backs on her migrant crisis, Bowser is determined to make the best of it. She promises that the District will “continue to work with partners to advance what we need and ensure our systems in DC are not broken by a crisis that is certainly not of our making.”
She thinks Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Doug Ducey are the problem, because they are the ones sending the buses her way. She refuses to accept the fact that is only a slice off the herd migrating through the desert. Some in ghillie suits and looking suspiciously like terrorists. Nobody wants to talk about that at all.
