Nancy Pelosi Retirement…

It looks like Nancy Pelosi is on the verge of retirement from her seat as House Speaker, and this could lead to a potential primary battle for her San Francisco-based congressional seat.

The filing deadline for Democratic hopefuls is December and the primary is scheduled for March 2024, so candidates have already begun angling themselves as potential contenders.

California Democrats are quietly talking about a long list of possible contenders, which includes Christine Pelosi (her daughter), Scott Wiener (a state senator) and Jane Kim (Director of the California Working Families Party).

Christine Pelosi has made it very clear that she does not want anyone disrespecting her mother by rushing out their candidacies before Nancy has even made an official announcement about whether or not she will be running again.

Wiener seems to be taking a different approach though – he’s already launched an exploratory committee and raised over $800,000 in preparation for his campaign launch.

While Kim has yet to comment on her own aspirations, she did tell the media that many Democrats have remained quiet about their potential candidacies due to respect for Nancy.

At this point it’s unclear whether or not Nancy plans on running again.

However, her spokesperson Aaron Bennett did confirm that she had filed all necessary paperwork just in case she decides to do so.

Despite speculation of retirement, Pelosi was recently quoted saying that January 6th’s Capitol riot “is an incentive to stay”.

She also reported having $3.6 million cash on hand at the end of July’s second fundraising quarter according to Federal Election Commission reports – money which could potentially be allocated among fellow Democrats if she chooses not to run again come 2024.
