Colorado’s Democrat Governor Jared Polis isn’t giving illegal aliens any sanctuary in his state. Instead, he’s going to export them to New York City. That has Mayor Eric Adams furious. “This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation.” He’s right. It’s really Joe Biden’s problem but Joe doesn’t think he has one.
No sanctuary after all
Migrants from all over the world can forget about sanctuary in the state of Colorado. Politico isn’t sure how to report this one because liberals refusing to drink the open borders Kool-Aid looks bad. They’re neutrally noting that Polis “plans to send migrants to major cities including New York,” as Adams griped on Tuesday, January 3.
The mayor is mad because “the nation’s largest city is already struggling to deal an influx of people sent from Texas and other Republican-led states.” Buses coming from Denver are a slap in the face.
Democrats are freaking out. Politico calls the “impending move” by a Democrat governor “unusual.” They add that Colorado isn’t even a border state. Not only that, Polis isn’t being a team player.

Both “leaders are Democrats facing severe challenges over what they say is a national crisis around immigration.” The crisis isn’t that they’re coming in for sanctuary. The crisis is that nobody can feed or house them.
Adams went straight to the press and complained. “We were notified yesterday that the governor of Colorado is now stating that they are going to be sending migrants to places like New York and Chicago.” Maybe Lori Lightfoot can cope but he’s already at the sanctuary services breaking point.
“This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation.” The Imperial Palace keeps pretending that nothing is happening. Our border is safe and secure, they assure.
Nobody knows how many
An assistant in the mayor’s office further explained that it’s bad enough they weren’t given any heads up until Monday evening. They’re glad to hear that Colorado will at least be spreading the migrants around but everyone knows there’s an unlimited supply of them.
As the aide put it, “the details on timing and the number of people who would be traveling east was unclear.” How can they provide sanctuary when they don’t know how many to expect. Dozens? Thousands? The larger option is most likely.
The big issue that Joe Biden refuses to face is that even sanctuary cities and states have limited resources.
Adams doubled down on his assertion that there is “no more room at the inn” for additional asylum seekers, including those who are set to arrive in the city from Colorado. https://t.co/gYJoCW3yjv

“Like many major cities around the country, Denver has been struggling to provide services for a surge of people who have fled their home countries in Central and South America, crossed the southern border and sought asylum in the United States.” The backlog on court cases means they won’t even get a notice to appear until around 2028.
Even the Catholic Church is running out of money and patience. They have been the go-to sanctuary aid provider for years. Now that the border has been thrown wide open, they’re as overwhelmed as El Paso.
In December, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock “declared a state of emergency and later appealed to the local Catholic archdiocese for assistance. He and Polis — both Democrats — also launched a fund to raise money to support services for migrants.” It didn’t come pouring in and now they’re stuck. The city of Boulder can’t even provide a library for their homeless to smoke meth in because it got too contaminated.
