Senator Turns on Trump, Will Vote to Convict

At the heart of this impeachment for Republicans is the hope they will get bipartisan support for Trump’s acquittal.

One of the key Democrats they are depending upon to vote for acquittal is Senator Doug Jones (D-AL).

Jones, however, just announced on the floor of the Senate that he will be voting to convict on both accounts.

Stunning Blow

Just days ago, there were four, with possibly five Democrats considering acquitting Donald Trump during the impeachment vote.

Today, that number is believed to be down to two.

Senator Doug Jones was considered a virtual lock to vote for acquittal, but he backed out at the last second, stating that he will reluctantly vote to convict.

Jones stated, “After many sleepless nights, I have reluctantly concluded that the evidence is sufficient to convict the president for both abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.”

Jones stated he “read thousands of pages of transcripts, watched videos of testimony, [took] copious notes, reviewed history and precedents and discussed this case with colleagues, staff, and constituents.”

Jones tried to protect his seat with his moderate base by taking a few shots at Democrats, though.

He stated, “The second article of impeachment, obstruction of Congress, gave me even more pause.

“I have struggled to understand the House’s strategy in their pursuit of documents and witnesses and wished they had done more.”

At this point, the two remaining Democrats who will possibly vote to acquit are Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.).

Considering how Sinema acted last night, one of the few Dems who stood at the appropriate moments, it would seem as though she plans to acquit.

On the Republican side, we know two of the possible votes in doubt, Senators Collins (R-ME) and Murkowski (R-AK), are both voting in favor of Trump.

The only Republican that remains in the wind is Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), who has a long-running feud with Trump as well as having tried to whip up support for witnesses during the trial.

If Romney does vote in favor of Trump and Republicans get both votes from Dems, this is an absolute disaster for Pelosi and Democrat leadership.

Not only will Trump be acquitted with a majority vote, but it will also be a bipartisan vote, and that will obliterate any chance Democrats have of winning this White House in 2020.

  1. I guess Doug thinks the reelection money Chuck promised him was more important than being a Senator after November. Remember, the deplorables are watching you and don’t forget.

  2. This defensive victory is very good as far as it goes. That is especially true viewed in the perspective of the disastrous alternative of conviction on the ludicrous false charges. Now I would like to see a heavy counter-offensive against the profoundly criminal left-wing fascist scum who are destroying our country and who despise every form of decency. There is a wealth of evidence against a long list of swamp monsters. We all know the names of many. They need to be put into cages rather than be allowed to continue raising pure hell.

  3. Mitt, assume you have not even packed a shaving kit in preparation for rapture? Mitt, your rationale for supporting what the dems did in their investigation and prosecution of Donald Trump is so full of holes I could fly a 747 through the thing and never touch the wing tips. The dems and you violated your oath, the Constitution, and basic Mormon doctrine by your actions. If there was a punitive article for violating your oath you and the dems would all be criminals. As it is, squaring away the violations of your Mormon violations may present even a bigger problem for you. As an old soldier I am just glad you don’t represent my state. That yellow streak down your back coupled with that crooked tongue of yours has already voided your ticket with me. Soldier/Cop/Grunt, Retired
