While it’s true that time can change a person, this one actress‘s transformation is downright shocking to say the least. Once staring in a long list of popular movies like The Shining, Popeye, Three Women, Time Bandits, and Manna from Heaven, Shelley Duval is now unrecognizable after quitting acting over 20 years ago.
Shelley Duvall is an actress who rose to fame in the 70s and 80s, gracing screens with her unforgettable performances. But after twenty years away from the spotlight, the now 71-year-old has been photographed looking completely unrecognizable.
Texas-born Shelley had no plans of entering show business when she was growing up, instead aiming for a career as a scientist. However, it all changed for her at a party in 1970 where she met some members of crew working on Robert Altman’s new film Brewster McCloud. Fascinated by her striking looks and mannerisms, they brought her along to meet Altman himself – and after an audition process she was given the role.
It marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Shelley Duvall who had never even left Texas before heading out to Hollywood for this opportunity.
It’s not only talent that makes someone famous – mental strength is often just as important when dealing with life in showbiz. Sadly though despite being so successful throughout the 70s and 80s, Shelley struggled with mental health problems which ultimately got the better of her – and many have speculated that her grueling experience making The Shining may have contributed to this decline significantly too.
With these issues becoming more pronounced throughout time, one could only guess how hard it must have been for Shelley who married artist Bernard Sampson in 1970 but divorced him four years later – leaving behind a son named Andrew whom she loves very much today still.
We would love to think that Duvall is simply enjoying retirement after such a fruitful career.
