An unlikely partnership has been formed between two members of Congress.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) joined forces for a piece of legislation I would actually support.
Their bill would make it illegal for members of Congress to trade stocks.
Inside Information
The number of people that go to Congress poor and get rich is staggering.
And some of these names are not even who you would suspect.
For instance, do you know who made more money than Nancy Pelosi in 2021?
There are six names above her, and they are all Republicans.
Austin Scott, Brian Mast, French Hill, John Curtis, and Dan Crenshaw, all Republicans, and all beat her out.
Crenshaw was a Navy SEAL officer before entering politics, so he had little before he started getting that tasty inside information.
Now making $174,000, he claims that is not enough to live off, so he will not be supporting this legislation, and I can see why, as he now has an estimated net worth of about $2 million.
I find that statement rather amusing, considering he was making a lot less as a Navy officer.
On the legislation being proposed, co-sponsor Brian Fitzpatrick stated, “The fact that members of the Progressive Caucus, the Freedom Caucus, and the Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, reflecting the entirety of the political spectrum, can find common ground on key issues like this should send a powerful message to America.
“We must move forward on issues that unite us, including our firm belief that trust in government must be restored, and that members of Congress, including their dependents, must be prohibited from trading in stocks while they are serving in Congress and have access to sensitive, inside information.
“This is basic common sense and basic Integrity 101.”
Take note of the members of Congress that do not vote in favor of this bill, then check their net worth… that will tell you all you need to know about them.
