This is a developing story with new details continuing to come in.

A massive explosion rocked the warehouse of the Turkish Grain Board at Derince Port in Kocaeli province on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction and injuring at least twelve people.

Firefighters and paramedics were promptly dispatched to the scene for immediate medical attention, with local authorities and emergency services now working diligently to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.

Reports from witnesses described shockwaves that reverberated throughout nearby towns, resulting in a dense plume of smoke and dust that engulfed the surrounding area.

Four injured people were sent to hospital according to Derince Mayor Zeki Akgün, while three are reported to be in serious condition.

All personnel had been accounted for according to Kocaeli Mayor Tahir Büyükakın.

Local authorities have already launched an investigation into what caused this disaster.

Initial information revealed by Governor Serdar Yavuz suggests that wheat dust compression during transfer from ship to silo was responsible for the blast.

The Transport Ministry has stated that no ships were affected by this incident.
