Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has made history once again.
She appointed Cody Hiland to the state Supreme Court, giving Republicans control of the court for the first time.
In her successful gubernatorial campaign, Hiland served as a senior adviser and was elected chairman of the state party last year.
With this appointment, we have seen a shift in power that will make a lasting impact on the state.
Hiland brings decades of legal experience to his new role on the Arkansas Supreme Court.
From 2017 to 2020 he served as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas following his appointment by then-President Donald Trump.
He also worked as legal counsel for the Arkansas Department of Public Safety and prosecutor for the 20th Judicial District of Arkansas before taking on this position.
On top of that, Hiland had been nominated as U.S Justice by President Trump in 2017 and served until 2020 when he joined Governor Sanders’ campaign team as an adviser before being elected Chairman of the State Party last year.
Clearly, he is more than qualified for this role.
This is the first time since Reconstruction that there will be a conservative majority on the court and it’s expected to have major implications for the state’s future development and progressions towards justice and equality alike.
According to Senator Tom Cotton, “ Cody Hiland is a good friend who is fair, impartial, and will apply law without favor. A great day for Arkansas .”
Attorney General Tim Griffin went even further praising him saying he was “an outstanding appointment” with all his experience.
