It’s been declared an accident because Santa Cruz Police officer Francisco Villicana was cleaning his gun at the time. Luis Alfredo Ferro-Sanchez was fatally shot by the off-duty California police officer, authorities revealed on Wednesday, October 26.
Cleaning his gun
On Friday, October 21, Francisco Villicana was cleaning his gun. The 22-year-old officer with the Santa Cruz Police Department claims he “accidentally” shot himself in the hand about 5:45 p.m. when it discharged.
The bullet continued its trajectory, striking 20-year-old Luis Alfredo Ferro-Sanchez in the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital but didn’t make it.
Its generally a good idea to unload your gun properly before attempting to clean it but the officer made one of those errors humans are prone to.

“While handling the firearm he accidentally discharged a single round striking himself in the hand, the bullet continued striking Ferro-Sanchez in the torso,” the official statement reads.
Officials haven’t been forthcoming with any information about how the two men were acquainted.
Though it looks like an accident there’s still going to be an investigation into how and why the gun went off. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office will be handling it.

Officer Villicana was the one who called the gun shot into the police. He’s only been on the force since February of 2022 and knows this doesn’t look real good on his record.
He’s been placed on leave while investigators look into it.
On the bright side, as long as nobody can make a case that it was a revenge killing or something and done intentionally, he should have his gun back and be out on patrol pretty quick.
All over California they’re beginning to realize how stupid it was to defund all the cops. Painting big targets on them for violent ambush attacks wasn’t real great for recruiting efforts either.
Even Paul Pelosi got attacked in his own home the other day. If Nancy had been there she would have been the one beaten with a hammer.
Not a single gun was involved but if Paul or whoever was in the house with him in the middle of the night to answer the door had one, Paul Pelosi wouldn’t be in the hospital recovering from a fractured skull.
