The first sign of a political campaign in trouble is the letting go of staff.
Historically, this has been a precursor to a candidate calling it quits.
Well, Ron DeSantis just let go 38 campaign staffers.
Lean and Mean
So, we all know how this will play out.
The story will blow up and Ron DeSantis’ team will say they are just trimming the fact for the stretch drive now that they have better grounding on what is needed for the campaign.
I would counter that by saying that if a campaign is running well, you should be adding staff for the stretch run, not firing nearly 40 people two months into the venture.
To that point, Campaign Manager Generra Peck stated, “Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden.
“Gov. DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign.”
I don’t care what they say, this is a sign of a big problem for DeSantis.
My best guess here is that the money that was pouring in after he announced has dried up.
We know some big-money donors and PACs have expressed concerns with the fact that DeSantis has been doubled up by Trump.
When the money dries up, the campaign is over, and if you are a DeSantis supporter, I would be hitting that little red button because nobody starts firing staffers this early in a campaign unless they are in dire shape.
It looks like the golden boy of the GOP is sinking far quicker than anyone could have anticipated.
