This is the United States of America and we speak English here. Or something close to it. President Donald Trump is making it official with an executive order. Nobody cares which of more than 350 languages you speak in the privacy of your own home. We can save a lot of money on printing by eliminating all the translations on government paperwork.
English official language
It was reported on Friday, February 28, that President Donald Trump is “expected to sign an executive order declaring English the official language of the United States.”
That doesn’t mean the others are outlawed, as Democrats seem to imply. They’re going crazy because, once again, it’s a historic first for Trump.
This, left-leaning Axios writes, “is the first time the U.S. federal government has declared the country to have a single official language.”
It only makes sense that it would be English. Specifically, the American dialect of that language. Federal officials won’t have to change “truck” to “lorry” or “yard” to “garden.”
Just because 22% of people in the U.S. speak a language other than English at home doesn’t mean their voting materials need to be printed in all of them. Not even the most popular ones.
The default on just about everything sent out by the federal government has been done with a Spanish version on the flip side. Saving on two-sided printing costs should make DOGE happy.

To promote unity
Saving money isn’t the only good reason for declaring English our “official” language. The goal of the executive order is “to promote unity, provide a path toward civic engagement and ensure efficiency in the government.” But wait! There’s more!
“The order also rescinds a Clinton administration mandate requiring federal agencies and other federally funded institutions to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.”
Nothing prevents the government from preparing documents and services in other languages, this is simply meant to make it an option for cases when it makes sense and not a required rule. Democrats try to turn it into a case of racist overreach.

Selecting English as an official language does not “denigrate” non-English speaking immigrants, as Axios suggests. If an American moved to Mexico they wouldn’t get free Spanish translation services handed to them by the government.
There’s no reason at all that anyone expecting to live and work in America shouldn’t learn the common language. They can continue their cultural heritage while at least picking up the ability to read street signs and safety notices.
Democrats are only going frantic over the issue now because Trump is doing it. At the state level, 32 of them have already “designated English as their official tongue.“
