When Republicans were investigating Joe Biden’s business activities with his son, Hunter, allegations were made that Biden took a $5 million bribe.
The allegation came from an FBI informant who had been used by the agency before, and it included an additional $5 million paid to Hunter.
Well, that informant just confessed to lying to agents, leaving the GOP with a lot of egg on its face.
I Lied
The informant, Alexander Smirnov, had information used in numerous cases, but not this time.
It was for that reason that the GOP was questioning why the FBI was not biting on this tip.
It got to the point that Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) published the raw intelligence, a move that would come back to bite him.
My guess here is that the FBI did check into the allegations and could not find a paper trail to back the claims, so the allegation was dismissed, and Smirnov was eventually brought up on charges for lying to agents.
Meanwhile, our elected officials in Congress continued to use this information, and we all ate it up hook, line, and sinker, and now we all look like fools while Grassley will not even own up to his mistake.
Grassley was not alone, either, as Reps. Jordan (R-OH) and Comey (R-KY) were also dropping this every time a microphone got put in their face.
With Smirnov how having pleaded guilty, this all goes away, and Democrats continue to sit there and smirk, insisting that there is nothing illegal in Joe Biden’s past.
I would have to imagine that Joe is breathing a sigh of relief knowing he has dodged yet another bullet on this front.
Two years and countless dollars were wasted chasing this down.
Call me crazy, but don’t Republicans owe us an explanation on this? They have spent most of the two years that we fought so hard to win conducting investigations that have resulted in no charges at all.
I don’t know about you guys, but I want some answers before they waste another congressional session chasing their tails instead of doing their jobs.
