Well, if Joe Biden wants to keep his Chinse solar handout alive, he is going to have veto yet another bipartisan effort.
Biden has been making all kinds of moves on the climate change front, but many of them are helping the Chinese more than American companies.
Biden’s solar handout is among them.
However, even his fellow Democrats say that he got this one wrong.
Not Today, Joe
Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act was climate change legislation that was undercover.
As bad as it was, Biden is making changes on the fly to pacify climate activists, even if it means screwing over American companies.
To that point, Biden wants to remove tariffs on Chinese solar panel manufacturers for two years to stimulate solar growth in this country.
It is a move that would cripple American manufacturers of solar panels.
At peak demand, Biden is looking to farm out business rather than keep it American-made, as he promised.
Several Democrat Senators lined up against him on this one.
Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) stated, “The United States relies on foreign nations, like China, for far too many of our energy needs, and failing to enforce our existing trade laws undermines the goals of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act to onshore our energy supply chains, including solar.
“I cannot fathom why the Administration and Congress would consider extending that reliance any longer and am proud to join this CRA to rescind the rule.”
Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) also pushed back, stating, “I’ve fought my whole career to stand up for Ohio manufacturers and Ohio workers when they’re forced to compete with cheap, unfairly subsidized imports – I’m not going to stop now.
“The Chinese government will do anything to undermine American manufacturing and would like nothing more than to kill the American solar manufacturing industry before it takes off.
“Ohio is ready to lead in the manufacturing industries of the future – we must not put that progress at risk.
“The president got this one wrong.
“I’ve always stood up to presidents of both parties to fight for fair trade and a level playing field for Ohio workers, which is why I will support Congressional action to end the Administration’s waiver of solar tariffs.”
Biden’s only recourse will be to veto the effort, which he will have to explain yet why, again, he has shot down bipartisan legislation on his watch.
