Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is back from his concussion-induced vacation.
McConnell fell last month during a fundraising event and had missed several weeks of Senate activity.
When he returned, he dared to criticize his good buddy, Joe Biden.
Needs to Sit Down
Biden has, thus far, taken a firm stance on the debt ceiling, and McConnell chose to focus on that.
He stated, “President Biden and his administration are literally on the clock to negotiate a debt ceiling solution with Speaker McCarthy and the Republican majority over in the House… his political advisers apparently think the White House position should be – listen to this – no talks and no reforms.
“This extreme position is not even holding up in their own party.
“Even Washington Democrats are breaking ranks from the administration’s position of no talks and no reforms.”
This all falls on McCarthy, who has already proposed adding $1.5 trillion to the ceiling as long as they can secure long-term budgetary cuts.
So far, the White House has been resistant to even sit down and discuss those cuts.
Biden wants an all-or-nothing deal, so this is going to come down to a game of chicken to see who blinks first.
We are going to find out once and for all if McCarthy has the backbone to do this job.
