It’s been reported that hours before President Joe Biden was expected to land in Utah on Wednesday, an FBI-led operation resulted in the shooting of Craig Deleeuw Robertson who had made threats against the president online.
Robertson had posted online Monday that he had heard Biden was coming to Utah and he was planning to “clean the dust off” his M24 sniper rifle.
According to investigators, Robertson also owned a long-range sniper rifle plus many other weapons, such as camouflage gear known as a “ghillie suit.”
Other than Biden, Robertson mentioned threats towards Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
In one Facebook post from September 2022 included in legal documents, he wrote: “The time is right for a presidential assassination or two. First Joe then Kamala!!!”
Special agents were attempting to serve a warrant on Robertson’s home in Provo when gunfire broke out at 6:15 am Wednesday morning according to an FBI statement.
No further details have been released about the shooting yet and it is currently under review by the FBI with no lawyer listed for Robertson in court documents so far.
Biden continued with his trip through the Western United States on Wednesday despite this tragedy as planned and spoke at a factory producing wind towers in New Mexico during the day before heading off to Utah later that evening.
In Utah he will visit a Veterans Affairs hospital to talk about expanded veterans benefits and hold an election fundraiser afterwards.
