The Democrat Party may soon be without one of its most high-profile senators.
Reports are surfacing that Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) may soon leave the Democrat Party.
Manchin believes the “brand” is now tainted.
Time to Go
To be clear, Manchin is not thinking about moving over to the Republican Party.
If he leaves, he will be an Independent.
In terms of what this means for Republicans… absolutely nothing because he would still likely caucus with the Democrats.
Point being, the majority is based on who caucuses where, so he, like Senator Sinema (I-AZ), would count toward the Democrat majority.
On possibly leaving, Manchin stated, “I’m thinking seriously. For me, I have to have peace of mind, basically.
“The brand has become so bad — the D brand and R brand. In West Virginia, the D brand because it’s [the] national brand.
“It’s not the Democrats in West Virginia, it’s the Democrats in Washington.
“You’ve heard me say a million times I’m not a Washington Democrat.”
He continued, “I’ve been thinking about that for quite some time.
“I haven’t made any decisions whatsoever on any of my political direction.
“I want to make sure that my voice is truly an independent voice.
“When I do speak, I want to be able to speak honestly about basically the extremes of the Democrat and Republican Party that’s harming our nation.”
If he really meant it, he would not caucus with the Democrats, but there is simply no way that Manchin would walk across the aisle like that.
