Former president Donald Trump gave an exclusive interview to Tucker Carlson on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The GOP front-runner for the 2024 presidential race didn’t hold back and accused Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of encouraging other senators to impeach him.
He criticized McConnell for slow-walking his defense during his first impeachment trial and using his power as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) to undermine the fight against his impeachment.

This is a stark contrast from when Trump endorsed McConnell in 2020 but later admitted he regretted it.
Since then, their relationship has soured with the former president forming a close alliance with Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy instead.
This comes at a time when Mitch McConnell holds the record for longest tenure of Senate leader according to Politico, surpassing Democratic Sen. Mike Mansfield’s 16 years by far.
McConnell voted against both impeachments of Trump, although he criticized him in a speech before voting against the second one before casting his vote anyway.
Seven Republican senators did vote to impeach him however, yet it was not enough for the two-thirds majority required since they only had 57 votes overall.
