Another election season, another year when Democrats are using American tax dollars to try to buy votes.
Harris is pushing a $25,000 grant for new homeowners to snag some of the minority votes away from Donald Trump.
However, she is making a promise that she may not be able to deliver on.
Can’t Do It
First and foremost, this type of financial relief has to go through Congress, so at this point, Harris is making a very questionable promise.
Second, this is not a program that would apply to all Americans, as she would likely only target black homeowners.
You see, a very similar plan had already been proposed by a Democrat in the Senate, but it would have covered all new homeowners within a certain salary bracket.
David Dworkin, president and CEO of the National Housing Conference, objected at the time, claiming, “A tax credit for all first-time homebuyers is going to expand the racial homeownership gap.
“We are simply providing first-generation homebuyers, largely people of color, what white first-time home buyers have been receiving for years in the form of the ‘Daddy Down Payment’ loan — family assistance that is almost never repaid.”
I believe Harris is on the same page as Dworkin, having stated in 2019, “We must right the wrong — after generations of discrimination — and give black families a real shot at home ownership.”
I am of the belief that programs like this should benefit all people, not just one race or one segment.
But that does not even begin to discuss the fact that we simply cannot continue to fund these giveaways with the debt our country is currently facing.
This will add even more to the growing debt, which is already going to take generations to pay off, but we have to cut spending in order to address the debt, and Democrats just keep on spending and finding new ways to add to the debt.
But that matters little when they are trying to stay in power because power is all that party is worried about.
