Janet Jackson created quite a buzz this weekend.
Jackson was being interviewed by the Guardian, and she floated the idea that she was not sure that Kamala Harris was black.
That was just the start of it, though.
Not Walking It Back
During the interview, Jackson stated, “Well, you know what they supposedly said? She’s not Black.
“That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.
“Her father’s White. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told they discovered her father was White.”
After her comments were published, a man named Mo Elmasri tried to damage control, saying he was Jackson’s manager.
In his alleged apology for Jackson, he stated, “Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity were based on misinformation.
“Janet respects Harris’ dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused.
“She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today’s society.
“Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding.”
Jackson, however, came out to say that her brother, Randy Jackson, is her manager, and she has no connection to Elmasri at all.
She also refused to walk back the comment, and her office was not returning phone calls.
This, of course, got some extra buzz due to Trump’s comments during the debate, where he more or less stated that Harris likes to claim whatever ethnic background suits her best at the time.
Now Jackson is being ridiculed as a conspiracy theorist.
I guess we won’t be seeing Jackson on Harris’ wish list anytime soon for someone who can appear at a fundraiser event for her.
