If you needed a clearer illustration of the old GOP of the Neo-Cons, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney versus the new America-First Republican party then look no farther than RINO Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s latest on-air screed with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’ Face The Nation. Like her father before her Cheney is calling for the United States to assert itself as a globalist interventionist state, imposing our will upon the world rather than acting in the best interests of the American people and placing America…FIRST. Cheney takes issue with the very concept of minding our own nations’ affairs as our first President, George Washington prescribed for our nation to succeed over 200 years ago.
“Look, we’ve- we’ve been down that road before, we’ve seen isolationism in both parties, and it’s always been wrong and it’s always been dangerous. America cannot defend and maintain our own freedom and security if we think that we’re going to simply withdraw from the world and not lead.”
What Liz simply doesn’t seem to comprehend is that where we are today is the logical end result of over a century of being more concerned with matters in Asia, Europe, and the rest of the world than we are with our domestic and neighboring issues. In the heady days since World War II, throughout a Cold War that required us to foster a system of alliances against the threat of global communism we’ve fallen victim to the mentality that because we had followed that route for so long… that meant we had to continue, even after the Soviet Union fell and our strategic focus should have shifted to opposing the other major Communist power… China… Except it didn’t.
Cheney’s War Hawk Worldview Would Get Americans Killed
While nothing justifies what Vladimir Putin has done to the Ukrainian people, Russians who wonder why NATO has continued to be arrayed against them for decades aren’t necessarily wrong. And what we’re seeing today is one of the end results of the failed policy of Neo-Cons like Cheney and the weakness of Democrats like Biden.
“You know, we are watching today the brutality of Vladimir Putin as he attempts to invade a democratic sovereign nation. And anyone who thinks that U.S. freedom and security is going to be maintained if we take a step back and don’t lead, you simply need to look at what’s happening in Ukraine to recognize that- that those who fill the void when the U.S. steps away are people like the Russians, like the Chinese, like the Iranians.
And so the idea that- that the world will be safe and that America will be able to be safe and free with an isolationist approach is wrong. It’s also wrong morally. You know, America stands for freedom. America was founded on fundamental principles of freedom. And- and I think it’s- it’s indefensible for people to abandon those or suggest that we are- we have no- no view as between Russia and Ukraine in this battle.”
The arrogant hubris of this statement oozes through the words on the screen or page and seeps through the video. Where America-First conservatives want to see our allies invest in their own defense and be able to contribute in kind to each police and secure their own corners of the world, Cheney and her ilk arrogantly continue to parade about with the same mantle of the ‘world police’ that Americans rejected the very moment they cast ballots for Donald Trump.
Pulling our Embassy out of Ukraine is a disgraceful abandonment.
America cannot defend our own freedom and security if we betray our allies and commitments around the world.
Full and crippling sanctions must be implemented against Putin and Russia immediately.

Cheney went on to obtusely mischaracterize President Trump’s ongoing efforts to force NATO to pay their way by meeting their military spending obligations under the treaty as “attacking NATO”.
“I think though, it’s very clear, if you- if you look at some of the challenges that we’re dealing with now, President Trump spent a large part of his presidency, for example, attacking NATO, saying that NATO was obsolete, attacking our allies. And we are certainly seeing today how crucially important NATO is, how crucially important our allies are.”
Cheney Really Just Doesn’t Get It
Why do the Russians have to fill the void when Poles, Ukrainians, Hungarians, Romanians and Baltic states can instead be empowered to hold their own by actually footing the bill for their own defense with American technology we gladly provide them as partners?
Why must America retain this role after so many decades? Has Europe not yet grown strong enough to carry the load themselves?
Why is it unacceptable to look to regional powers like Israel, Turkey, India, Pakistan, and the Arabian nations to hold Iran in check? If we could become energy independent again that we obliterate the power that they hold over us and it is distinctly no longer in America’s best interests to insert ourselves into their affairs.
And China? Between India, America, Australia, South Korea, and our Pacific partners and with economic means we have the very same ability to keep China in its lane. It all starts with restarting American industry and extricating it from the grip of China.
Should we abandon the world to its fate? No. And nobody rational has suggested that Liz. But the rest of the world after about eighty years can be expected to start holding their own. And there are other ways to help Ukraine without putting American soldiers at risk or risking a thermonuclear war.
And here’s a risky take: Lashing eastern Europe to us in NATO has actually weakened their hand in this situation. Were the Poles, Hungarians, Romanians, and Baltic states free to act without the threat of nuclear war hanging overhead, Ukraine’s neighbors could already be intervening militarily to support Kyiv against Russia and hurl their armies back to Moscow. Even Putin would have to demure to a united front on his western border that was free to retaliate in a non-nuclear capacity.
But you see that doesn’t help Liz Cheney does it? It doesn’t help her and her friends get elected nor does it help her family friends at Halliburton or major donors like Honeywell, Blackstone Group, Berkshire Hathaway, Raytheon, Northrup Grumman, or Lockheed Martin. Now does it? But what helps all of them and not you? WAR.
