In a shocking incident, a young father killed a convicted sex offender using a moose antler. However, once details of the incident were revealed, many community members hailed this dad as a true hero.
A Minnesota father who was concerned about his daughter’s safety took the law into his own hands and turned himself in after confessing to fatally beating a convicted sex offender.
Levi Axtell, from Cook County, Minnesota, believed that Lawrence Scully had been stalking his then 22-month-old daughter at her daycare. After feeling ignored by the authorities when he sought an order of protection for his daughter, Axtell decided to take matters into his own hands.
Lawrence Scully was jailed for molesting a six-year-old girl and served just three years for the assault. Later, he was again facing allegations of sexual misconduct with minors. Court records also show Scully was committed to a mental institution but was later released and prescribed anti-psychotic drugs.
Axtell noted that despite being on medication, Scully still parked his vehicle near locations where children were present, making him increasingly suspicious of the man’s intentions towards his daughter.
After trying unsuccessfully to get help from authorities, Levi Axtell decided to take justice into his own hands. A caller reported seeing a minivan pull into Scully’s driveway followed by screaming coming from inside the home shortly thereafter. When Axtell arrived at the sheriff’s office covered in blood with his head in his hands he confessed to killing Lawrence Scully with a shovel and moose antler having struck him 15 – 20 times “to finish him off.”
His bail has since been set at $1 million dollars while members of both sides have taken their thoughts on the matter public through social media platforms such as Facebook where some commenters have hailed him as a hero while others are more critical claiming this incident has only created more victims with nothing but nightmares left behind due its unintended consequences resulting from vigilante justice gone wrong.
