Attorney General of New York Letitia James appears to have been at war with former President Donald Trump for many years now, as a video of her has resurfaced. Trump shared past video of the then-New York attorney general candidate vowing to sue him and calling him “illegitimate” during her campaign in 2018.

After being elected as New York Attorney General in 2019, Letitia James began looking into allegations against Donald Trump from his business dealings. These accusations quickly escalated into a $250 million lawsuit against the former president and his company for alleged fraud.

Judge Arthur Engoron ruled in late September that Trump had committed fraud while building his real estate empire by lying about his assets and inflating their values with help from his kids. As a form of punishment, Engoron ordered the revocation of certain business licenses which could make it difficult or impossible for them to operate in New York.

Trump’s legal team is pushing back against these claims and argues that Letita James brought forth these accusations under an inappropriate section of law meant for consumer protection instead of one that requires a jury trial like most other lawsuits do.

Alina Habba spoke on behalf on behalf of the former president last week saying “It is unfortunate that a jury won’t be able to hear how absurd the merits of this case are and conclude no wrongdoing ever happened.” Meanwhile, another spokesperson released a statement saying “We’re not seeking delay. We’re not seeking anything but a fair trial”.

Despite these arguments from Trump’s lawyers however, Judge Engoron stands by his original ruling in late September ordering revocation certain business licenses belonging to the former president as punishment for fraudulently inflating asset values with help from his children.

Despite Engoron’s orders however, a state appeals court judge halted any breaking up or dissolution of corporations owned by Donald Trump but did not stop the civil fraud trial from continuing its course according to CNN.
