Well, Democrats have a new brilliant idea on how they can monitor the Trump presidency and they are not even trying to hide it.
After Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) made some comments about not going to the extreme, a Democrat House member suggested starting a shadow government.
Of all people, he recommended that Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) serve as the attorney general.
Not Even Hiding It
I can just imagine the outrage if the GOP had ever suggested creating a shadow government when Biden or Obama were elected.
Having said that, I think most of us probably believe there is an actual shadow government already in place for the Biden presidency.
Now that Dems lost, Senator Schumer offered some advice to the GOP on their newfound power.
He stated, “To my Republican colleagues, I offer a word of caution in good faith: Take care not to misread the will of the people, and do not abandon the need for bipartisanship.
“After winning an election, the temptation may be to go to the extreme. We’ve seen that happen over the decades, and it has consistently backfired on the party in power.
“So, instead of going to the extremes, I remind my colleagues that this body is most effective when it’s bipartisan.
“If we want the next four years in the Senate to be as productive as the last four, the only way that will happen is through bipartisan cooperation.”
That is pretty rich coming from someone who circumvented the rules numerous times to get legislation passed.
Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.) jumped on the idea of a shadow government.
He stated, “The special relationship between the United States and Britain extends not just to our strength on the global stage, but also to our shared commitment to democracy.
“Across the Atlantic, the British have something we don’t: A team from the opposition that mirrors the government’s own Cabinet members.
“They watch the Cabinet closely, publicly, challenging, scrutinizing and offering new ideas.”
What is the answer to Americans pushing back against government overreach? If we are to believe Nickel, that would be more government, even a secret government.
And Democrats wonder why they just lost an election in record numbers.
