Border agents are not happy with a Democrat Senate candidate.
The candidate, Lucas Kunce, made a claim that did not sit well with agents.
This misstep may have just cost him the race.
Can’t Say That
Kunce is a Lt. Col. in the Reserves after having served in the Marine Corps for more than a decade.
One would think that would be enough, but the man facing off against Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) decided to embellish his record a bit.
Kunce put out this campaign video…
Now, at the time, he was only about four points down, but now he is approaching double digits after being called out by former Border Patrol agents.
The way Kunce talked about that certification, it sounded like he went through the full course for the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), which is Border Patrol’s elite unit.
To give you an idea, this is their version of special operators in the military.
These people go through a vigorous selection process and training.
What Kunce did was go through a small training program, likely receiving a piece of paper saying he had completed the additional training that was provided by BORTAC, but not actual BORTAC training, if that makes sense.
Former agents were livid, with one stated, “No, we — the Border Patrol does not certify people, per se, in border enforcement.”
He continued, “There’s no way in a short deployment or a short detail to the border or even a joint training session with BORTAC would I ever look at that and then say that person is now a border security expert. That is just silly.”
Another retired agent stated, “A simple imposter claim like this steals the value of the hard men assigned to BORTAC teams, and it is a fast track to destroy credibility.
“The Border Patrol agents in the area that I still keep in contact with saw it and were offended.”
First Walz, now Kunce with the embellishment of their military record.
In current polling, Kunce is trailing Hawley by 11 points, with prior surveys showing Kunce down from between four to six points.
I won’t say this is now a lock for Hawley, but even at four to six points, Kunce had an uphill battle.
At 11 points and less than two months to go, I just don’t see him overcoming that margin.
