It now looks like the GOP will hold the House, a shock to everyone in this election.

By all accounts, it appeared the GOP would lose the House, mostly due to all the dysfunction shown over the last two years.

Even though all the races have not been called, projections are for the GOP to hold a 220-215 edge.

Taking It All

This is what they like to refer to as the election trifecta, winning both chambers of Congress and the White House.

Now the question remains if the GOP can hold Congress after Donald Trump pilfers its members away for his cabinet.

Donald Trump is already pulling away at least two senators and two House members from Congress for posts in his cabinet, and there could be more.

These seats will be filled with appointments until a special election can be held, so it will be up to those governors to appoint someone who can fill the position while running for re-election.

They will also need to make sure these individuals have enough of a presence that voters know who they are.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) discussed Trump pulling members from Congress, stating, “That’s an agenda we’ve been working on with President Trump for months now.

“We didn’t wait until the day after the election to start planning this, and this shows the relentless focus of Donald Trump.

“I know he’s already pulled a few really talented people out of the House – hopefully no more for a little while until special elections come up, but it shows you the talent that we have and the ability we have.”

Most of the members that have been pulled are coming from red states, but that is not the case for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), whose replacement will be picked by Democrat Governor Hochul.

The GOP should win that special election, however, as Stefanik won her last race rather handily, snagging 62% of the vote.

Other members that will have to be replaced are Senator JD Vance (R-OH), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL).
