Can you imagine winning the World Cup and being forced to resign over a kiss?

Well, that is what just happened to Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Rubiales made the mistake of kissing one of the players after the ladies locked down the World Cup, and now he is out of a job.

I Didn’t Like It

So, let me show you this video before I break this down.

Here is the celebration after the game, with Rubiales kissing Jenni Hermoso.

The two embrace, exchange words, then there is a brief kiss, but it is clearly not passionate or anything close to it…

Rubiales says the conversation up there went, “In the moment that Jenni arrived, she lifted me up off the ground. We almost fell over.

“We hugged. I said, ‘Forget about the penalty, you’ve been fantastic, we wouldn’t have won the World Cup without you.’ She said: ‘You’re great.’ I said, ‘A kiss?’ and she said: ‘Yes.’”

If you watched it live he embraced every member of the team and kissed most of them, it just did not seem like a big deal.

But, Hermosa later stated he kissed her without her consent and she felt violated by it.

Rubiales defended himself, stating, “My desire in that moment was exactly the same as if I’d have been kissing one of my daughters. No more or less.

“Everybody understands that. It was a spontaneous kiss, mutual, euphoric, and consensual.”

Rubiales was suspended, then he tendered his resignation to both the RFEF and his VP position for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

He stated, “Today, I notified the interim president at 930 pm, Mr. Pedro Rocha, that I have resigned as President of RFEF.”

He further stated, “I have also informed him that I have done the same with my position at UEFA so that a replacement for my role as vice president can be sought.

“After the suspension by FIFA, in addition to the rest of the proceedings against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position.”

That, my friends, is the world we live in today.

So, if you are a man coaching or involved in women’s sports in any way, just stay in your office because any wrongly perceived action by you, and you are out of a job.
