A report broke this week that an American has been sentenced to jail in Russia.
He allegedly joined Ukraine during the early days of the war to fight against Russia, but he was captured.
The man is 72 years old, yet Biden and Harris are doing nothing to help him.
Innocent Man
Stephen James Hubbard, a native of Big Rapids, MI, relocated to Izyum with his wife in 2014.
According to the charges, he joined Ukraine during the early days of fighting in February 2022.
In April of 2022, Russia has taken control of that area (Ukraine would later take it back) and captured fighters that were defending Ukraine.
Russia claims that Hubbard was being paid $1,000 a month as a mercenary for Ukraine, but his family says that is not true.
Hubbard’s sister, Tisha, posted on social media, “Russia’s prosecutor is lying! Steve was never a mercenary. He was an English teacher teaching English in foreign countries!”
According to Tisha, Ukraine was not accepting anyone over the age of 60 to fight in the war, then she added, “Russia knows this but to save face for kidnapping, beating and holding my brother all this time, their courts are charging Stephen James Hubbard anyway.”
The Russian court found him guilty, then sentenced him to seven years in prison.
The Biden administration responded, “We have limited information available about this case because Russia has refused to grant consular access. I’ll say a couple things about the case, though.
“The individual is 72 years old, has been held in prison for two years. He was arrested in Ukraine, not in Russia.
“Russia should grant consular access to him for the United States, as they should any time they detain an American citizen. And we are looking at the case very closely in considering our next steps.”
This man is an American citizen and if his sister is right, he was swept up by Russians as a private citizen, something we have heard about happening during this war.
So, unless Russia has actual proof of him fighting, the Biden administration must insist this man is freed from prison and allowed to return home.
Yet, they are doing nothing to help this man and not once has the administration intervened on his behalf during his trial.
Just like Biden did with Americans in Afghanistan, he is leaving another American behind.
