It’s no secret that the government is rife with corruption, but the recent revelation that Special Counsel Jack Smith was tied to the IRS scandal involving Lois Lerner has taken things to a whole new level.
With Merrick Garland putting him in charge of investigating Trump, it appears as if the deck is stacked against us.
The case that brought this all to light started when several Tea Party groups and conservative non-profits were targeted by the IRS Exempt Organizations Unit, headed up by Lerner.
Upon investigation from Republicans Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Darrell Issa (R-CA), they discovered that Smith had been neck-deep in this scandal for some time.
Jordan and Issa stated in an official press release “It is apparent that the Department’s leadership, including Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith, was closely involved in engaging with the IRS.”

Smith’s involvement began shortly after he read a newspaper article about misuse of nonprofits.
Following his reading of said article he reached out to his DOJ colleagues asking questions about 18 U.S.C § 371 conspiracy violations and how Sarah Ingram oversaw these nonprofit groups.
An internal investigation conducted by DOJ found “Our investigation uncovered substantial evidence of mismanagement, poor judgment, and institutional inertia” surrounding Smith’s role in this whole ordeal, leading many people to conclude that there’s more here than meets the eye.
We know what happened here: a powerful government figure used their influence to target innocent citizens because they didn’t agree with their political views.
This shows just how corrupt our system has become; we need real change now if we have any hope of fighting back against those who would abuse their power like this for personal gain.
