If you ever wanted to know why Congress is political theater instead of a functioning governing body, take a seat and listen to this garbage that took place.
Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) effectively blocked the PACT Act.
It is not because he did not support the legislation, because he does.
It was because of the language regarding the spending allocated in the bill.
Democrats, including Joe Biden, jumped all over this to bash Republicans and get some headlines.
The PACT Act
The sticking point in the legislation is in making funding for veterans’ health issues related to burn pits discretionary or mandatory.
This is a big issue solely because it does not allow spending to be directed where it is needed most.
It is literally forced spending.
Toomey wants to fix that.
Instead of saying there were language issues and the bill will pass, Biden trashed Republicans, then talked about our “sacred obligation” to our military.
Isn’t this the same guy that wanted dishonorable discharges for veterans that did not take the vaccine?
Isn’t this the guy that approved more massive cuts to VAs around the country?
It was so bad, even Biden’s henchman in charge of the VA piled it on, which set Toomey off the deep end…
This is totally unambiguously false, and the Secretary should know that.
Nothing in my amendment results in one dime reduction in spending for health care or other benefits for veterans either existent or proposed in the PACT Act. https://t.co/vJnFDtY1TI

Toomey further explained, “Let me be very clear, Republicans are not opposed to any of the substance of the PACT Act.
“My honest Democratic colleagues will fully acknowledge that my objection, and if I get my way, get my change, it will not change by one penny any spending on any veterans program.
“What I’m trying to do is change a government accounting methodology that is designed to allow our Democratic colleagues to go on an unrelated $400 billion spending spree that has nothing to do with veterans and that won’t be in the veteran space.
“They could have agreed to this a month ago and this bill would sail through at any point in time.
“When we strip out this completely unrelated provision worth $400 billion, I will vote for the bill.”
The fact is, all they really care about are headlines, yet they expect the GOP to sit down with them in good faith when they stab them in the back every chance they get.
