On Friday, a massive explosion occurred at a uranium plant in the Russian Urals region.
This event caused panic both in the area and around the world, with fears of radiation contamination looming.
In an attempt to calm citizens, Russia’s state-run media began releasing reports that provided details about the incident.
According to these reports, one person had perished as a result of the explosion. The individual was identified as a 65-year-old worker who was performing maintenance duties when tragedy struck.
Rosatom provided additional information regarding radiation levels at the facility which were reported as normal; 0.17 microsieverts which is equal to natural values.
Furthermore, workers underwent medical examinations and decontamination procedures at Central Clinical Hospital No. 31 of Federal Medical Biological Agency in Novouralsk with most being discharged shortly after without any health risks presented to them or those living in Novouralsk city where the plant is located.
Yuri Mineyev who serves as deputy production manager stated “there is no danger of any kind for residents” and expressed condolences for those affected by this unfortunate accident.
In response to this situation, Rosatom took action by initiating sanitization efforts at the workshop scene while other areas continued operating normally according to plans put into place prior to this incident taking place.
Alexander Dudin who serves as General Director of Ural Electrochemical Plant joined forces with plant collective and State Corporation ‘Rosatom’ in expressing heartfelt condolences towards family members and loved ones affected by this loss.
