The last few weeks have not been good for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Once again, during a critical time, Johnson was ready to cave to Democrats as well as not being able to get the GOP caucus on the same page.

To that point, the public is getting a little fed up with him, as he now has a lower approval rating than Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.

Tanking

I have been trying to be patient with Johnson, but it seems fairly apparent to me that he has no backbone at all.

He is either caving to Democrats or getting pushed around by Trump, and that is not a good thing for a party leader.

Johnson’s job is to get everyone on the same page, and that is not done by threatening people or by giving in to everyone’s demands.

When I saw the first spending bill, I could not believe he allowed the GOP to negotiate it. Then he just called up Trump and asked him what he wanted in there, including a long-term suspension of the debt ceiling, which set fiscally conservative members of Congress off the reservation.

The bill that Trump wanted would have added $5 trillion to the deficit, which is hardly what Trump ran on and told the American people he would do if he won.

In the process, Johnson has pissed off just about everyone, seeing his approval rating drop to 30%, 14 points below Harris and 10 points below Biden.

Johnson has also lost the support of many hardline conservatives in Congress, and his chances of becoming Speaker are dwindling.

I won’t say that Johnson is done because most of Trump’s surrogates in Congress are pressing for Johnson to remain Speaker, but there is clearly going to be resistance.

My feelings… I am done with him because I am sick and tired of seeing a Speaker without a backbone.
