This week, Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) announced that he would be dropping out of the Senate race as well as resigning his seat in the Senate.
Menendez was convicted on a stack of bribery and fraud charges for promoting the interests of Qatar and Egypt over the United States.
Now, however, there are rumors that there is a reason he is resigning and leaving the election.
Always Something
Democrats right now are terrified that if Menendez stays in the race, he will draw enough votes away from the Democrat candidate (Menendez registered as an independent for this election) that the Republicans might steal the seat.
The GOP is already slated to win the Senate, so Dems have to keep their majority below a filibuster level to block them.
It now appears that Menendez made a backroom deal with Biden, if the reports are accurate.
One source stated, “He’s likely trying to get a pardon or a reduction in his sentence.
“Bob Menendez doesn’t do things without getting something back, and at this point I would think he would want to get out of the way to spare his kids the embarrassment, and maybe even help his wife.”
Menendez is set to be sentenced in October, and there is no way Biden would ever announce a pardon before the election.
If this does happen, my guess is that Biden would do it on his way out the door in January to avoid the press and the GOP eating him alive over the move.
Just remember this, though… the Dems went nuts when Trump pardoned his buddies, and they always talk about nobody being above the law.
In essence, Menendez is a traitor, so if Biden pardons him, he is once again proving that above all else, power rules the day for the Democrat Party.
