On the afternoon of August 30, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis made a request to expedite all 19 cases involved in the alleged 2020 election meddling.
Judge Scott McAfee of Fulton County Superior Court granted a motion to move the trial date from May to October after defendant Kenneth Chesebro filed for a speedy trial.
However, Willis pushed back against this decision and proposed that all defendants charged in the racketeering case have their trials moved up as well.
The charges allege that several people — including former President Trump — formed a criminal enterprise and attempted to subvert the state’s election results in order to keep him in power despite his loss in 2020.
Sidney Powell, who was formerly part of Trump’s campaign team, also called for an immediate trial.
However, no specific date has been set yet by McAfee.
Each defendant will be formally charged with 41 counts on September 6th and given the opportunity to enter a plea at this time.
In response to these ongoing events, The House Judiciary Committee is pushing for more information regarding Willis’ indictment and prosecution of Donald Trump.
They cite her new fundraising website which highlights her investigation into the president just four days prior to her announcement of charges as evidence that she may have politically motivated intentions behind bringing this case forward.
Additionally they bring attention to how quickly she brought forth these charges after sending out letters requesting documentation from Republican officials back in February 2021 — over two-and-a-half years later — when campaigning for the 2024 presidential nomination is already underway.
Jordan then went so far as to say that this timeline “unsurprising[ly]” leads many people to speculate if these actions are intended “to interfere with the 2024 presidential election.”
Subsequently it appears that something bigger may be at play here than meets the eye when looking at DA Fani Willis’ recent requests concerning these criminal proceedings against Donald Trump and other prominent figures in Georgia politics accused of participating in fraudulent attempts to influence elections within their state last year.
