This week, the state Supreme Court of Missouri ruled that the execution of Marcus Williams could proceed.

Williams’ defense team then filed an emergency stay request with the Supreme Court of the United States.

That request was also denied, and it sent liberals off the deep end, insisting that an innocent man was being put to death.

Right or Wrong

In 2001, Williams was convicted of the brutal 1998 murder of journalist Felicia Gayle.

Gayle was stabbed 43 times, with the murder weapon being left behind at the scene of the murder, plunged into her neck.

Williams, of course, has always maintained he was innocent.

While that remains to be seen, there were some procedural issues and outside factors that have everyone worked up over this execution.

First, there was DNA evidence of a prosecutor on the murder weapon, proving the evidence had been mishandled.

Second, the victim’s family wanted the death sentence commuted to life in prison.

Third, the current prosecutor does not back the previous conviction.

The defense argued, “The ever-present undercurrent of residual doubt as to Mr. Williams’ innocence plagues this case, even as his execution looms.

“Mr. Williams’ conviction and death sentence were secured through a trial riddled with constitutional errors, racism, and bad faith, much of which only came to light recently.”

The Supreme Court denied the request along ideological lines, which lead to Governor Parson taking a victory lap, justifying the execution by saying that Williams had more than enough opportunities to prove his innocence, and he failed.

Parson stated, “Mr. Williams has exhausted due process and every judicial avenue, including over 15 hearings attempting to argue his innocence and overturn his conviction.

“No jury nor court, including at the trial, appellate, and Supreme Court levels, have ever found merit in Mr. Williams’ innocence claims.

“At the end of the day, his guilty verdict and sentence of capital punishment were upheld.”

What do you guys think?

Should they have allowed the execution to be delayed, or was it the right decision to move forward and hold Williams accountable for the murder he was convicted of more than two decades ago?
