Joe Biden has another position to fill.
Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will soon be vacating his office for the greener pastures of the NHL.
Walsh is set to take over as the executive director of the National Hockey League Players Association.
See Ya!
Walsh currently makes about $220,000 per year.
The NHL is dropping about $3 million on the table for him to take over as the boss of the NHLPA, so this would appear to be a no-brainer.
Walsh is more than qualified for this position, having served as the boss of the Building and Construction Trades Council in Boston before joining Joe’s administration.
He also happens to be a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of the Boston Bruins.
It is safe to say, this would be a dream job for Walsh.
Walsh rose to the top among a field of NHL lifers, and that is exactly why the players want him.
They are looking for someone outside the sport to come in with a fresh approach to represent the players, a move that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman fully supports.
He stated, “The fact of the matter is that we’re very respectful of what the players are doing.
“They’re going to conduct the process as they see fit. Whoever it is, we’ll work with.”
The NHL is not quite at the level of the other major sports in terms of TV deals and salaries for players, but it is getting there.
With Walsh’s experience, he should do a pretty good job for the players, but now Joe has another seat to fill.
