Finally, a Democrat is going to jail for breaking the law.
Catherine Pugh, the former Mayor of Baltimore (2016-19, was convicted of federal tax evasion and conspiracy charges and will now spend the next three years behind bars.
You Do the Crime…
Pugh had used her contacts and influence for her own personal profit.
While serving as a board member for the University of Maryland Medical System, Pugh received $500,000 for 100,000 copies of her book, “Healthy Holly.”
Between 2015 and 2018, Pugh made roughly $114,000 from Kaiser Permanente, a health care provider, for about 20,000 copies of her book.
The Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, in turn, received a $48-million contract.
To say her arrest and subsequent conviction was a black eye on the city of Baltimore, a city with a hearty reputation for corruption and out-of-control crime, would be the understatement of the century.
In an effort to get a lighter sentence, Pugh presented the court with a 13-minute video touting all the good she had done, but that did not go over well the presiding judge, Deborah K. Chasanow, a Clinton-appointed judge.
Judge Chasanow basically accused Pugh of exploiting her reputation to carry out these fraudulent acts.
She stated, “It is astounding and I have yet frankly to hear any explanation that makes sense. This was not a tiny mistake, lapse of judgment.
“This became a very large fraud.
“The nature and circumstances of this offense clearly I think are extremely, extremely serious.”
Pugh has been apologetic about her crimes, but that is only because she got caught.
She stated, “I messed up. I really messed up.
“I accept total responsibility. I pled guilty and I’m sorry.
“I don’t know any other words that could be strong. I am so sorry.”
Pugh, who will turn 70 next month, will now have the next three years to reflect on her actions.
With any luck, this is the first of many corrupt politicians we see headed to the pokey in an orange jumpsuit… but I surely won’t hold my breath waiting.
Had she been a Republican or named Stone, she would have received a 40 yr sentence.
Finally one of the many crooked Democrats is going to prison for three years for tax evasion the Ex Mayor of Baltimore. Now they need to go after the big fish in the SWAMP of the last administration then we will see Justice for a change. Remember NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW!!!! That was said by our President, and I really like it, but it has a lot of people shaking in their boots!!!!! THAT’S GOOD!!!!

She should have gotten more time and be made to repay every penny she was paid while in office.
