A Missouri city clerk was busted with being involved in a Mexican drug operation according to federal prosecutors.

City Clerk Busted

Former Everton city clerk Kristy Conn with a group of others is being held responsible for distributing a whopping 10 pounds of meth in the Springfield area.

Last November 46-year-old Conn gave a guilty plea for conspiring to commit money laundering, the Columbia Tribune reports.

As of Wednesday, she was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after the sentence was handed down in front of Judge Doug Harpool.

An Unlikely Suspect Charged

The former city clerk had a stellar track record, which is why officials believe the group wanted her as a cover. In June 2019, Conn was not named as one of the 14 people who originally received charges, but as investigators continued to dig, her name began appearing.

Investigators found a woman named Ginger Huerta was involved with many wire transfers which included drug money being sent from the states to Mexico.

When law enforcement brought Huerta in for questioning, she sold the clerk out and said Conn was the one leading the way for about 90 percent of the money wire transfers.

Attorney Gives Details

The Columbia Tribune reports:

“Sometimes Conn would send Huerta text messages with instructions, and other times she called in panic, saying money needed to be sent immediately, according to a plea agreement in the case.

Conn’s attorney Dee Wampler said it was Conn’s now-former husband, Cheyenne Conn, who got her involved in the drug trafficking conspiracy.

Cheyenne Conn, whose case is still pending, is the alleged leader of the drug ring.”

Her attorney revealed that the former clerk has done 200 hours of community service in the lead up to her sentencing. She also completed a drug and alcohol rehab program.

Wampler pointed out that Conn was once a high school honor student and had an exceptional record before getting involved in the drug operation.

  1. Money could possibly BE the root of all evil! People do things that most of us find despicable for the chance to score a fortune. Hope the courts take these cretins out of circulation for a long time.
