The level of paranoia, or perhaps guilt, in our government agencies, is on full tilt right now.

With Trump winning the election, reports are blowing up that officials in the DOJ and FBI are seeking private counsel after Trump takes office.

They are reportedly terrified that Trump will prosecute them for their roles in trying to prosecute Trump.

If You Did Nothing Wrong…

I have always been a believer in full transparency.

When I see people object to being investigated or refusing to cooperate, save very few exceptions, I tend to think they are trying to hide something.

In the case of these DOJ and FBI staffers, if they followed the rules, then they should have nothing to worry about.

However, if they broke the rules, such as manipulating FISA warrants, well, then they better be worried.

To that point, scores of officials are reportedly seeking counsel, even though one agent in the FBI stated, “Everything we did was aboveboard. But this is a different world.” Uhm, no, it was not.

Stephen Gillers, an ethics professor at New York University Law School, tried to explain the fear, stating, “Trump aims to neutralize sources of power that may impede him.

“That includes the law and legal institutions. He will tolerate no interference when the department’s decisions will benefit Trump and his buddies or when its power can be deployed to retaliate against his enemies.”

But here is my question: If officials or agents break the rules, is Donald Trump prosecuting his enemies or just seeking out rogue elements in these agencies?

I have long been in favor of rounding up all these people who purposely broke the rules, and I imagine those orders were given from pretty high up in the food chain.

That, however, at least in my opinion, is not weaponizing the DOJ; that is just some much-needed housekeeping.
