While running for office, Donald Trump promised that he would pardon J6 defendants en masse cone he gets into office.
Trump stated he would review the cases and offer pardons for those he believes were wrongly charged, and he predicted this would be the case in a substantial number of cases.
Trump-appointed Judge Carl Nichols is now calling out Trump, being very critical of the proposed pardons.
Let Them Go
Nichols believes that blanket pardons would be a big mistake for Trump.
He added that anything close to this is something that he could never support.
There are a lot of mixed feelings about this because there were clearly people who broke the law at the J6 riot, and they do need to be held accountable for their actions.
But, we can also look at the George Floyd rioting, which, in my opinion, was far worse, with our streets literally being set on fire.
However, when you look at the number of indictments, the Floyd riots pale in comparison.
I have also seen some cases prosecuted for the J6 riot that were utterly ridiculous.
For instance, prosecutors wanted to send Rebecca Lavrenz, 72, to jail for 10 months. Lavrenz has been referred to as the J6 Praying Grandma.
She spent about 10 minutes inside the Capitol that day, most of it praying. She wound up getting six months of home confinement and was ordered to stay off the internet.
The people who damaged property or attacked police, by all means, hold them accountable, but they are only a small number of the more than 1,400 individuals charged that day.
I have no problem with people being held accountable for their actions, but we still want a level playing field.
When people who literally firebombed police cruisers and police stations are not even prosecuted, well, I think it just shows how liberally biased our justice system has become.
