An Ohio K-9 handler officer has found himself in a bind after bodycam footage was released of an officer-involved shooting.

The K-9 officer and the handler officer were searching with other officers when they opened the door to a bedroom.

The man on the bed hand came up with an object, and the handler officer opened fire, killing the man.

It turns out that it was not a gun in his hand.

That’s Not a Gun

Officers were serving an early morning warrant for Donovan Lewis.

He was wanted on charges of assault, domestic violence, and felony improperly handling a firearm.

The police dog led them to a bedroom as officers conducted the search.

The door was opened, Lewis was inside, and his hand came up with an object, so the handler officer opened fire.

The object ended up being a vape pen…

The handler officer has since been identified as Ricky Anderson, a 30-year veteran of the force.

Police Chief Elaine Bryant stated, “Donovan Lewis lost his life.

“As a parent, you know, I sympathize and I grieve with his mother.

“I grieve with our community but we’re gonna allow this investigation to take place.”

Bryant has only been on the job for a year, vowing to hold officers accountable when they are in the wrong when she took the job.

There will be significant pressure for charges to be filed against the officer in this case… of that, I have no doubt.

This is a tough call knowing that officers literally have a split-second to make the call when they see a hand come up like that, especially when the suspect is known to have firearms.

This is a developing story and we will continue to monitor for updates.
