I can remember when San Francisco was the toast of California.
That, clearly, is no longer the case.
Businesses are fleeing the city and so are residents, a trend that is sure to continue with reports like this.
Out of Control
We know the downtown area of San Fran has been out of control, but that is now leaking into other areas of the city that have never had a crime problem.
The most recent example being a gang infiltrating the Noe Valley.
Gang members have been terrorizing the area as late, preying on women who are out shopping.
According to the reports, they come into town wearing ski masks and threatening the women with batons to rob them.
One woman stated that she was “shoved to the ground aggressively” while trying to pick up her daughter from daycare.
In many instances, they are grabbing cell phones and taking off, but that is not always the case.
Another woman stated, “This is not just a ‘phone snatch’ situation.
“This is a targeted, violent attack against moms and caretakers.”
Police have been virtually useless, barely making any arrests (they would be useless anyway, as prosecutors are not taking on these low-level thefts).
Catherine Stefani of the Board of Supervisors stated, “I am incredibly alarmed by this and think it highlights the need for increased police presence in the area, especially given what is happening in Noe Valley.
“Ensuring the security and well-being of residents, particularly women, is top priority for me and I have asked SFPD to step up patrols in the area.”
One of the most ridiculous excuses for this was offered up by San Francisco Board of Supervisors member Rafael Mandelman, who blamed it on the pandemic.
He stated, “What happened with kids not being in school, I think there may be something going on with that that we’re going to be experiencing for a while.
“Those couple of years where school was erratic or non-existent, where everyone was under stress, parents and caregivers were under stress.
“That was probably impacting vulnerable communities more anyway.”
All they do is look for excuses for this radical behavior rather than hold these thugs accountable for their actions.
As long as that continues, this behavior will only continue, and more law-abiding citizens will be put at risk.
