A couple of the GOP House members that will be committee chairs were hoping to get rolling a little early on their investigations.
That will not be happening, however.
In no uncertain terms, the White House told them to go pound sand.
Not Happening, Not Yet
A letter was sent requesting oversight requests.
However, since the GOP is not in charge of the House yet, the request was denied.
The bigger problem, however, is that the request and denial by White House counsel was leaked to the media and published in Politico.
White House Counsel Richard Sauber responded to the request, “Congress has not delegated such [oversight] authority to individual members of Congress who are not committee chairmen, and the House has not done so under its current Rules.”
He continued, “Should the Committee issue similar or other requests in the 118th Congress, we will review and respond to them in good faith, consistent with the needs and obligations of both branches.
“We expect the new Congress will undertake its oversight responsibilities in the same spirit of good faith.”
The White House leaked this letter to @politico last night.

The GOP House account further stated, “This was clearly a planned and coordinated effort between the White House and ‘journalists’ at Politico.
“And it just shows how the media and White House will work hand-in-hand politically to obstruct legitimate constitutional oversight.”
State-run media… I don’t know how many times I need to say it!
