We are dangerously close to Martial Law being declared in this country.

In some cities, however, measures have been taken to create a very similar situation.

Champaign, IL State of Emergency

Over the last week, we saw some pretty extreme measures being taken to help lessen the curve of the coronavirus outbreak.

For instance, all major professional sports teams have suspended or canceled their respective seasons.

At the time of the announcements, many thought it was overkill, but not having these large gatherings will go a long way to prevent the social spreading of the disease.

Hindsight says we probably should have done this sooner because people are showing a rather amazing lack of concern when it comes to public distancing and hygiene.

The Mayor of Champagne, IL is taking this a step further, though, and has been given some rather far-reaching powers by City Council after the emergency declaration:

  • Violating parts of the Open Meetings Act
  • Ban sale of firearms and ammunition
  • Ban sale of any alcohol
  • Closing of all bars, taverns, liquor stores, etc
  • Ban sale or giving away of gasoline or other liquid flammable or combustible products in any container other than a gasoline tank permanently fixed to a motor vehicle
  • Direct the shutoff of power, water, gas, etc
  • Take possession of private property and obtain full title to same
  • Prohibit or restrict ingress and egress to and from the City

When the order was made public, there was a state of panic in the city, especially regarding the right of the city to take private property.

If you want to see people run to the gun stores and stock up, that will do it.

Mayor Deborah Feinen tried to address this issue, stating, “So many of those powers, I have had from the beginning.

“All we have done is enumerate them and now the public is aware of them. So, I am the liquor commissioner. I can shut down bars yesterday, I could have shut them down two years ago.

“Nothing has changed with respect to that, it is just that we have laid it out, so people are aware of that.

“In respect to the other items that are listed in the attachment, they have been listed in the city code for 15 years.”

Rest assured, once this crisis is over, citizens throughout this country will be checking their city charters to see just how much power their local government could enforce with the snap of a finger.

  1. This liberal mayor needs to be voted out and taken to court now, as does the city council. If this begins to happen in oother cities the president needs to get control of these liberals and if necesary remove hisnational emergency order. I epected this to happen in liberal controlled cities.

  2. Is the Mayor of Champagne, IL insane, someone should alert the governor and / or the Federal government of his dictator tactics before it’s to late

  3. Wow, the power was given to the city 25 years ago and it looks to me as if everything in that power is totally against the Constitution and illegal according to the Constitution. Who the hell was mayor when these illegal rights to the city were passed. A damn commie or was it a democrat. Most of these things have nothing to do with the virus, now isn’t that interesting. What the mayor should have concerns with should be the health issues of the virus. What does grabbing property and immediately getting title to the property have to do with any disease and the same things with guns. Interesting that dictators want to get rid of guns and control gas, etc. What are they planning on doing when the virus is gone. I would suggest the city get rid of these so called illegal powers out of the city charter like fast or you guys won’t be in office for long and maybe that is why you want the guns banned and property.

  4. Id love to see this creepette try to enforce this on me, I would have her arse in a federal felony lawsuit so damn fast she would see herself coming in the court room, and she would lose such bigtime that it would cost Champagne, IL so much money they would still be paying off the fines 300 years from now. Who the hell does this moron think she is to take such and unconstitutional action???
