When Iman Al-Sarraj, an 18 year old woman, was found dead in a freezer in Brandon Sanders’ West Rogers Park apartment on July 1st, it left her family and friends devastated.
She had been beaten to death and her family is not only mourning the loss of their loved one but also seeking justice for her murder.
It appears that this tragedy could have been prevented if Sanders had been held accountable for his earlier crimes.
At the time of Iman’s death, police sources said that Sanders was already in custody and at court answering a judge on murder charges.
Prosecutors reported that back in May, Sanders had wandered onto the rooftop of a bakery near his home where retired HVAC contractor Rasim Katanic was working at the time.
Sanders allegedly took Katanic’s screwdriver before stabbing him to death.
This tragic event demonstrates how violence can quickly escalate when people are not held accountable for their prior actions.
Vanessa Al-Sarraj has been left heartbroken after losing her little sister so suddenly.
To honor Iman’s memory Vanessa has planted flowers near where she is buried and spends much of her time gardening there as well as watching butterflies, which were things that Iman enjoyed very much during her life.
In addition to honoring her memory with these small gestures Vanessa wants justice served for her sister, stating, “Justice should be served for my little sister, because she’s not here to speak.”
Although detectives are still investigating the case sadly it is too late for any kind of resolution or closure to bring peace or solace to those who loved and cared about Iman most dearly.
Despite detectives calling Iman’s death a homicide no charges have yet been filed against Sanders or anyone else connected with the case just yet but Vanessa remains optimistic that they one day will be brought into court.
