BAM: Democrat Lawmaker BUSTED, Facing Felonies and Prison Time

A Virginia Democrat lawmaker was busted and charged with two felony counts of breaking the law instead. Because the crimes occurred in connection with the destruction of a Confederate monument, things aren’t as clear cut as they should be. State Senator Louise Lucas is looking at possible prison time for conspiracy to commit a felony and injury to a monument in excess of $1,000 – but it’s the Police Chief who’s worried about keeping her job, simply for filing the charges.

Lawmaker turns lawbreaker but police take the heat

Portsmouth Police Chief Angela Greene dared to arrest Virginia state lawmaker Louise Lucas, along with a local school board member, staff from the public defender’s office and local NAACP leaders, for the intentional destruction of public property. Now, the backlash over doing her job and enforcing the law threatens her career.

The incident left one person critically injured when a trusted lawmaker decided to promote anarchy instead. On the afternoon of June 10, protesters started gathering at the Confederate monument commemorating the site of what used to be a slave whipping post. A “rally” was planned for the evening. Everyone knew it would really be a riot because they came armed with spray paint. Sergeant Kevin McGee estimates there were 150 people there and “at least 40 armed civilians.” Meanwhile, there were only five police officers.

In the course of the afternoon, NAACP president James Boyd and vice president Louie Gibbs were arrested for “trespassing at the monument,” and released. Shortly after, Senator Lucas arrived. The lawmaker approached the group of police officers. First, she allegedly “told them she spoke with the mayor and city manager.” After indicating the Black Lives Matter anarchists, she flatly declared, “They are going to put some paint on this thing, and y’all can’t arrest them.”

You can’t do that

Sergeant McGee was quick to point out to the lawmaker that “she couldn’t tell people to do that.” Senator Lucas wasn’t listening. “I’m not telling them to do anything, I’m telling you, you can’t arrest them.” That was all the mob needed to hear. “People shook cans of spray paint and shouted, ‘cover it!’ Someone yelled: ‘Y’all heard her! Go, cover it!’ People climbed over the fence around the monument and began spray painting,” McGee wrote in an affidavit.

Later that night, as the violence raged on and the large obelisk had been covered with graffiti, the mob turned their attention to the statues of four Confederate military personnel accompanying the obelisk. Barbarians proceeded to rip the heads off. One of the statues was pulled down, critically injuring 46-year-old anarchist Chris Green in the process.

When Chief Angela Greene announced charges against a total of 14 “high-profile community members,” including the Democrat lawmaker, “the charges sparked backlash from political activists, who on Wednesday, Aug. 19, called for the immediate resignation or firing of the police chief.”

State police investigation comes up empty

The Portsmouth City Manager, Dr. Lydia Pettis Patton, sent off a blistering email reminding the Chief that the Council “demanded an independent Virginia State Police investigation.” The liberal council wants to get to the bottom of “why officers didn’t move in to stop vandalism when it began.” The state police found no wrongdoing on the part of local police and closed the file July 22. That’s when the Chief went ahead and pressed charges against the real criminals, the organizers.

As Chief Greene announced in an August 20 statement, “there were “potential conflicts” initially because of the involvement of elected officials, which is why she asked outside agencies to investigate. However, when those efforts came up short the responsibility fell on the Portsmouth Police Department to ensure a ‘comprehensive investigation’ was done.”

Sergeant Greene backs his Chief all the way. He’s the one who swore out all the warrants. He wrote back to the council in an email of his own, “the responsibility for the events on June 10 rests ‘squarely on the shoulders of several elected and appointed officials,’ not on police.” He also wrote, “For anyone to attempt to place blame on Chief Greene or the men and women of the Portsmouth Police Department or to continue to try to use us as pawns on their political agenda is absolutely disgusting and offensive.”

Chief of Police Angela Greene reminded the lawmaker and her anarchist friends that they all have a duty to enforce the laws, not break them. “I am aware that there are questions as to why my office investigated the destruction of the monument and proceeded with charges against the known offenders. My answer is simple, upon taking my oath of office when being sworn in as a law enforcement officer in the City of Richmond and then upon being sworn in as an Assistant Chief and then Chief of Police for the City of Portsmouth, I vowed to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and promised to faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent upon me, to the best of my ability. As the head of the primary law enforcement agency in the City of Portsmouth, it is my obligation to investigate all crimes that have occurred, and when probable cause exists, present that evidence for the prosecution, which is what was done in this matter.”
