Breaking: Massive Hazardous Explosion Wipes Out Neighborhood

explosion

A massive explosion is expected any moment near East Palestine, Ohio. Leave now or get arrested, police are frantically advising. Filled with highly flammable and toxic vinyl chloride, a blast would be a major disaster. The town lies along the Pennsylvania border, so residents of Darlington Township in Beaver County are being evacuated as well.

Explosion risk continues

Earlier, Ohio authorities told local outlets that the situation is “worsening” and an “explosion is likely imminent.” The up to the minute latest announcement by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, is that “a controlled release” of vinyl chloride will happen at 3:30 p.m. local time on Monday, February 6. Fire crews are hoping that relieving the pressure may prevent an explosion.

At least one car should have blown sky-high, already. The shrapnel could fly as far as a mile, so that’s how far out they are evacuating. At the same time, there are seriously toxic fumes to contend with.

The mandatory evacuation order “is in effect for anyone living within one mile of scene, that includes part of Darlington Township in Beaver County.” Officials note “they have made contact with everyone in that radius telling them to move out.” Fast.

As East Palestine Fire Chief Keith Drabick warns, “we are at a risk now of a catastrophic failure of that container. Measures are being taken to try and control that and prevent that from happening.” It would be one heck of an explosion.

Governor DeWine also declared an emergency and activated the Ohio National Guard to help. “Residents living within a mile of the train derailment site who have not yet left their homes are asked to immediately evacuate due to the potential of a major explosion,” he declared.

Within the last two hours, a drastic temperature change has taken place in a rail car, and there is now the potential of a catastrophic tanker failure which could cause an explosion with the potential of deadly shrapnel traveling up to a mile.

Refusing could lead to arrest

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s office isn’t playing around. They made it crystal clear that “those with children in their homes who decline to evacuate may be subject to arrest.” It all started around 9 p.m. Friday “as a train was carrying a variety of products from Madison, Illinois, to Conway, Pennsylvania.

It derailed for yet unreported reasons. Rail operator Norfolk Southern reports “no injuries to crew, residents or first responders have been reported.” There was a fire all weekend but the explosion risk ramped up considerably on Monday.

As related by East Palestine officials on Sunday, “emergency responders were monitoring but keeping their distance from the fire.” There wasn’t much they could do. “Remediation efforts could not begin as long as the cars smoldered.” They’re smoldering enough to spark an explosion, now.

Each one of those tanks is a huge bomb. East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway already declared a state of emergency in the village over the weekend. Avoid the area, he declares. It’s not rocket surgery. “A train carrying hazardous material wrecked in the town and is burning. Doesn’t get any simpler than that.

First responders are amazed at the power of human stupidity. “One person was arrested for going around barricades right up to the crash during the night.” The mayor warned that “more arrests would follow if people did not to stay away.” Besides the chance for a massive explosion, there are also toxic fumes.

Firefighters don’t need people in their way distracting them, either. “I don’t know why anybody would want to be up there. You’re breathing toxic fumes if you’re that close,” the mayor observes. He also added that “monitors of air quality away from the fire showed no levels of concern and the town’s water is safe because it is fed by groundwater unaffected by some material that went into streams.
